The citizens of Alexander were described as "particularly moral, sober and intelligent"—probably due to the fact there is no liquor outlet. Alexander is widely known as a good place to live for families because the schools have a good academic reputation.

Alexander, incorporated in 1888, is a small quiet city with many retirees.  The Pulaski-Saline county lines runs through portion of the city.  The most population brought has been in the Saline portion with a population of 440; the Pulaski portion has about 174.

Alexander lies northeast of Benton, Arkansas where it by be reached driving east on Arkansas Highway 67 and taking a right onto Sardis Road, then a left South Alexander on Arkansas Highway 111.
